Most people have a camera these days, either it’s the camera attached to their mobile phone or alternatively it’s a point and shoot type like the Canon Ixus 95 IS digital camera. There are so many different cameras out there to suit every budget. It’s fair to say that the bulk of pictures taken are stored on some sort of online gallery on Social Media sites for friends and family to look at. So if we are going to show off our photography skills it’s a good idea to get the best possible shots from our camera.

This short article will hopefully help you to get the most from your camera whatever the make or type.

Firstly its important that you get to grips with the settings specific to your camera. Now the easiest way to do this is to read the manual that came with the camera. Now if you’re a bloke then this may be a little difficult to swallow as to be fair us blokes don’t generally ‘do’ manuals we tend to just play around and figure things out! Now with modern Cameras like the Canon Ixus 95 IS Digital Camera this is becoming so much more difficult to do as without having a good understanding of what the settings actually do you will never get the best shots in a variety of situations. My solution was just to read the manual when no one was about so I could just claim to have figured it out without having to read anything

Loose the date stamp. Unless you have a very good reason to know when you took a picture you will be far better off just turning this off, that way you don’t spoil the corner of your picture with a date. I you have forgotten to do this and need to get rid of it then use your photo editing softwares ‘clone tool’ to remove. I recommend Photoshop for this (expensive but worth the investment).

You should lock your focus before taking a picture. The way you do this is by half pressing the button down to take a picture first, that way the auto focus will do its magic, before fully depressing the button to take the picture.

Its worth trying the presets that came with your camera like night mode, indoors etc.

When you use your flash at night make sure you are close enough to the target otherwise its just not going to work. Maximum distance should be no more than 5 metres away, prefereably a lot less.

Talking about distance settings this leads us on to an important subject. Macro settings; these are there to help you to take good close up pictures of objects. Its important to realise though that in most case the macro settings will not be compatible with your zoom function, but obviously its worth playing around when you have time just to check what produces the best results.

Before using your camera make sure that you clean the lense, otherwise you are never going to get the best pictures, or you are going to waste a tonne of time photoshopping the dust off your pictures, which just isn’t a good way to spend your time! Use a microfiber cloth similar to the type for sunglasses.

When taking pictures, always use both hands and if at all possible rest your elbows against your chest to help stabilise your camera. This will reduce the chance of a blurry picture. Although most modern cameras do have an image stabiliser its worth getting into good habits so you don’t have to rely on it too much. If your using a camera phone then this becomes especially important as they rarely have such technology built in. <<<Go here to check out the camera that I recommend to use<<<<<<<

If your camera is fitted with a viewfinder as well as a screen, try to use the viewfinder where possible as it will also help improve your pictures.
